ShutterStutter, first meeting!

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

ShutterStutter was originally conceived as an online community for photographers, where pictures and information could be shared, and where networking takes place.

That never got off the ground as it was a much larger project that I was capable of, and goddamit I’m still having trouble saving up the last thousand to buy a new camera.

Around the same time, I started this blog. Which needed a name. And I’m not savvy enough to come up with two good names in a week, so, voila!

Now, ShutterStutter (the network) has come back to life! It even has a website.

After a lot of um-ing and uh-ing, I decided to show my meager Flemington series, which I’m hoping to do a bit more work on.

My graduation (finally!)

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Today, I’ve finally graduated. Scary feeling, to not have uni as an excuse for being at the bottom of the corporate ladder and being dirt poor. It’s official, up up and away into the big bad world.

And these are the geeks I did it with - six bloody years! We started together, separated for a year to study overseas (Italy, Mexico, France and China), and now we’re graduating together.

My parents are such (cute) dorks…

On a funny note, they lost one of my certificates! I have a double bachelors in Arts and Design. My Arts one had to be hunted down after the ceremony.

Stefan Sagmeister at AGIdeas!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

The Sagmeister (he should have a t-shirt) will be at AGIdeas 2009 in Melbourne. AGIdeas is an annual three day conference , 5th to 7th of May, with talks from internationally renowned designers.

For my non-design readers, or designers who have been living under a rock, Stefan Sagmeister is the current ‘it’ man of typography. I’ve blogged about him before.

I’m still tossing up going, but the cost of it will be too much I think. And I can’t justify it, as there is only one photographer speaking and he doesn’t even do portraiture.

Sagmeister on design and happiness:

Sagmeister on things he has leared.

On a side note, I have the worst belly ache right now. Gawd, what did I eat?!

Moran Prize Winners 2009

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

The awards night for the Moran Painting and Photography Prizes were on Tuesday night. I dolled up and crossed my fingers, but alas, no prize money for me this year :( I’m happy about being selected as a finalist, but well, one always wishes for more.

I was kicking myself for not bringing a camera, but figured it won’t be too hard to find photos on the net later. These are courtesy of smh.com.au.

This image won the AUD80,000 grand prize, phew. Dean Sewell, A Dry Argument.

The man himself.

And this is artist Ben Quilty with his winning entry of Jimmy Barnes. There But For The Grace Of God Go I No. 2. This has won him AUD150,000. (!)

I also met a talented young lady on the night, and winner of the photographic prize in the Years 11 to 12 category. Rachel emailed me the day before the awards night, and we were lucky enough to bump into eachother on the night.

This is her winning entry, Planes are raining down on us.

Head over to her blog, I still love your tits, to see more photos of the awards night. Maybe ask her about the name of her blog too :).
